We are very excited to announce that the theme for this years trail is… Science-Fiction! These could be characters from famous Sci-Fi films, books or scenes from out of space. Chilton has proven itself to be full of some extremely creative scarecrow builders and we can’t wait to see what you all come up with.

Scarecrows are built by residents of Chilton and will be displayed on both sides of the village. Visiting the trail is a great opportunity for children to scoot or bike around our lovely village with a number of play parks. Parking is available at Chilton Garden Centre, which is in the centre of the village and has a cafe, which makes a lovely lunch stop to rest tired legs. If you live locally, the trail doesn’t need to be completed all in one go and you might like to do it more leisurely in two halves.

In order to take part and get your map, you can either buy a map in person from the checkout at Chilton Garden Center (cash only) or click the link below which will open our Paypal page in order to donate. You will then receive your copy of the map electronically as an email attachment.

All proceeds will be shared equally between Chilton Primary School and Chilton Baby and Toddler Group.

After you complete the trail, remember to vote for your favourite scarecrow. This year there will also be 10 clues hidden at various scarecrows. collect the answers and send them into us to be in with a chance at winning our prize draw by clicking here. The winning scarecrow builder will receive a gift hamper from the garden center and a winner will be selected at random in our prize draw to win a family ticket to Beale Park. Good luck!

When visiting the scarecrow trail please be respectful of residents’ properties and do not touch the scarecrow displays.

About us

The Chilton Scarecrows team is a small group of local mums who organise yearly events within the village to support the local community.

Trails have taken place in the village previously, but the Chilton Bug Hunt was the first event organised by the Chilton Scarecrows Team. We had so much fun that we haven’t stopped since! we have now organised yearly scarecrow trails over the autumn half term holidays for everyone to come and enjoy.

Over lockdown we also organised additional events for Easter where the Easter bunny came to visit homes and we arranged a visit from Father Christmas over the festive period. This was when we held our first Christmas Light Switch on where all the decorated homes in the village switch on their lights at the same time and a wonderful festive atmosphere is created as neighbours mix on the illuminated streets.
